Black and White Photo: The Elmtree

--> In 1959 my grandmother, Ann Beaumier, started a catering business out of her kitchen. She took pride into every event she catered using recipes passed through her family for generations. In 1982, she purchased the union building on Walton Avenue in Struthers. In it’s prime The Elmtree catered to Youngstown’s elite when the steel mills were booming.

As the mills declined, so did business. After my grandmother’s death, the business was passed to my father, Dean. As the physical business is passed down through the generations, so are customers. Many clients that my grandmother catered to in the 1960’s, my father and I now cater to their great grandchildren. During the recession, we have lost business as any small business would, but we manage.
